Sandborne Court, Bournemouth
This development of sixteen luxury apartments in two blocks occupies the site of two former villa style houses. The development retains the original mature landscape framework of rhododendron and trees despite the intensity of the layout of the site and lack of working area. This called for tight discipline and monitoring of contractors to be built into the contract. Bourn3.jpg (54773 bytes)

The site layout makes maximum use of the restricted area with some apartments and part of the grounds being sunk below original ground level as a semi-basement. The resulting changes in level presented particular challenges in creating attractive spaces and ensuring gently ramped or level access.

The site has won several awards for its landscape:

  • BALI (British Association of Landscape Industries) National Landscape Award 2004.

  • Your New Home Magazine: Best Development for Landscape Design 2004 Judges Comments: "The success of this scheme is due to the early collaboration between architect and landscape designer, ensuring that the design of the buildings work harmoniously with the gardens. Equal importance has been given to careful detailing of hard and soft landscape. On-going maintenance has also been addressed with clear responsibilities for communal and private areas." Guy Farthing.

  • New Homes Garden Awards 2004 in association with the Daily Express and sponsored by the New Homes Marketing Board, the NHBC and Showhouse Magazine (2 awards)

    • Gold: Best Communal Garden - Retirement Development

    • Overall award for “Garden of the Year 2004”
